Our tasty new range for customers with food allergies and intolerance
Around 45% of the UK population claim to have some kind of food intolerance and around 2% have an allergy to some foodstuffs.
Here at ASDA, we know how frustrating living with a food allergy or intolerance can be. Finding the 'right' foods can be difficult, understanding food packaging labels can often be a nightmare and the foods that are available can sometimes be tasteless.
That's why we've launched our great new 'Free From' range - specially developed foods which are gluten, wheat, dairy or nut free, designed to make your life even easier and healthier!
What is food allergy or intolerance?
A food allergy is when the body's immune system reacts to a particular food. Those reactions can be life threatening.
"Intolerance" happens when unpleasant symptoms occur after eating a substance which your body cannot handle because the digestive system does not produce sufficient quantities of a particular enzyme/chemical, which is needed to break down the food and aid digestion.
To manage symptoms, people with intolerances need to avoid certain foods. People with an allergy need to avoid all forms of that food, even tiny amounts. In both cases, these people often have quite a limited diet.
Making your life easier
We've aimed to make the ASDA 'Free From' range as clear and helpful for you as possible. All the products are labelled on the front of the pack to help you easily identify that the food is 'safe' for you.
The range is easy to find instore by being located together and clearly signposted with its own distinct and recognisable signage.
